19 Years Later…

The Story Behind Our Name

As we celebrate 19 years of Painted Cowgirl this month, I’ve found myself reflecting on where it all began.

Many people know Painted Cowgirl as a western store, but the story behind our name started long before there was ever a storefront.

My father, Emmett “Tiny” Bond Jr., dedicated much of his life to breeding, training, showing, and racing horses. Horses weren’t simply something we enjoyed, they were our life.

Some of my earliest memories were made in the barn, at horse shows, around the farm, and with the Paint and Quarter Horses that helped shape my childhood.

Those experiences taught me lessons that stayed with me long after I left the barn: work hard, stay humble, take pride in what you do, and always treat people right.

When I opened a small tack shop on our family farm in 2007, I wanted the name to reflect those roots. It was my way of honoring the Paint Horses that played such an important role in my life and the family that helped shape who I am.

Back then, Painted Cowgirl looked very different than it does today. We carried everything for the horse, not the rider. Feed, halters, lead ropes, saddles, supplements, grooming supplies, and whatever else local horse owners needed.

What began as that little farm tack shop slowly grew into something much bigger.

Over the years, we moved from the farm to downtown Greenwich, expanded our selection, renovated historic buildings, and launched an online store that now serves customers far beyond our little corner of Ohio.

Nineteen years ago, I opened a small tack shop with a dream and a love for the western lifestyle.

What I couldn’t have known then was how many people would become part of that dream.

Every customer who walked through our doors, every family who chose to shop with us, and every conversation shared along the way helped shape Painted Cowgirl into what it is today.

When I look back over the last 19 years, I’m grateful for all of it.

The trust you’ve placed in us over the years means more than I could ever put into words.

As we celebrate this milestone, I’m reminded that Painted Cowgirl has never just been about boots, hats, or western apparel. It’s always been about people.

Thank you for supporting a small business. Thank you for trusting us through the years. And thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your story, too.
